Trier Chamber of Trade cooperates with craftguide

Digitization in the skilled crafts sector: Apprentices now learn with the step-by-step video courses from the Munich-based start-up

craftguide, provider of digital instructional content for training and professional development in the skilled crafts and industry, is now working together with the Trier Chamber of Trade. The cooperation consists of video tutorials in an interactive step-by-step format that bring basic and advanced training for skilled crafts into the digital world in a target group-oriented way. By providing and integrating the step-by-step video clips, which were filmed in-house and edited by craftguide, learners can work through even complex work processes at the desired pace and repeat individual steps as often as required. The entire content can be used with the free app on any smartphone or tablet and can also be watched outside of the training courses. The project "Digital teaching and training formats in the skilled trades" is supported by the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Transformation and Digitization with funds from the EU assistance program REACT-EU.

"As part of this project of the Trier Chamber of Trade, I have been intensively involved with various digital tools and digital knowledge transfer," says Christian Posselt, project manager for digitalization ÜLU in Trier. "I was looking for a company that could support us in this and offer a coherent overall package. We want to reach all participants, whether in education or training, and thus provide digital learning support. All of our departments will be included in the platform - from electricians to bricklayers." The Trier Chamber of Trade represents the interests of more than 7,000 businesses in the region. It currently trains nearly 3,000 apprentices at its new Campus Handwerk, Germany's first crafts training center built to passive house standards. The innovative new building offers almost 10,000 m² of usable space in around 30 workshops, teaching, conference and training rooms.

"We are very pleased of our cooperation with the Trier Chamber of Crafts," says Johannes Nies, co-founder and managing director of craftguide. "This brings us one step closer to our vision of preserving and passing on experiential knowledge. Trainers can record their knowledge and apprentices can access the courses when, where and as often as they want to learn the skills - if desired, even in their native language." That's because craftguide courses are available in more than 40 languages. "Our goal is to create an encyclopedia of craft. The more educational institutions join, the more trainees in the various trades can benefit from what we have to offer."
